MY ROLE ; As a sole Designer
As the sole designer for the NathanDigital Accounting software , I worked closely with stakeholders, and in-house accountants to understand the core requirement of the software and develop a design that was both user-friendly, intuitive, & efficient. I also collaborated closely with developers to ensure that my designs were feasible and implementable and also performed the visual QA for the front end to make sure everything was as per the design.
Invoicing and Payment
Generate professional invoices and process payments seamlessly, including online payment options for quicker transactions.
Expense Tracking
Track and categorize business expenses efficiently, with the ability to link banks and credit cards for automatic transaction imports.

Bank reconciliation is the process of matching and reconciling the company's financial records with bank statements. Accounting software should have automated tools to import bank transactions, reconcile accounts, and identify discrepancies.

The bar was set high; we aimed to compete with already-established industry giants such as QuickBooks and Xero. For this purpose, we sought to create software that not only accomplished user’s tasks efficiently but also proved to be more intuitive, user-friendly, powerful, and capable of seamless integration with Nathan-digital’s ERPs.
To comprehend the pain points of users and refine our approach, I delved into various sources.
Reddit : renowned as the holy grail of authentic user reviews, became a valuable platform. I
scrolled through numerous user reviews, particularly those pertaining to competitor apps like
QuickBooks and Xero. This allowed me to gain insights directly from users about their experiences
and challenges with these applications.
Talking to accountants : I engaged in discussions with internal accountants within our company.
Through these discussions, I sought to uncover specific pain points associated with QuickBooks. By
directly consulting with professionals utilizing the software, I aimed to identify missing features
and areas for improvement to enhance our own software's usability and effectiveness.
I conducted a comprehensive competitor analysis, evaluating industry giants like Zoho Accounting and Xero. This analysis empowered me to understand their strengths and weaknesses, enabling me to strategically position our product. By learning from their approaches, I created a user-friendly and feature-rich design that sets Nathan Digital Accounting apart. This thorough analysis ensured our software not only competes but excels in the competitive landscape, offering users a superior accounting solution.

Information architecture is the method of organizing and labeling information to make it findable and understandable. when creating the information architecture for this accounting system, I prioritised the following aspects to ensure a user-friendly and efficient experience
Started by sketching my ideas on paper, allowing me to quickly express my thoughts and map out a rough idea of the design. This initial step helped me to visualize the layout of the design, consider the placement of elements and features, and make modifications to the design as needed.

i performed moderated usability testing for several core features of the software with 5 in house
accountants in the first round of usability testing. i will be showcasing here how it was performed for
the ‘create new invoice’ feature.
Participants were provided with the software and assigned specific tasks to complete. The evaluation of
usability was conducted in two ways.
Firstly, direct observation of the recording, of the users while performing the assigned tasks. Metrics
such as time on task, error rate, and the number of clicks and several others were noted to gauge the
efficiency and effectiveness of their interactions with the software. Additionally, users were asked few
questions post-task.
These inquiries focused on assessing the perceived usefulness of specific features or functionalities,
as well as identifying elements that users found easy or challenging. These two methods aimed to provide
a comprehensive understanding of both quantitative performance metrics and user’s subjective experiences
during the usability testing process.
Out of the many flows tested, just showcasing one here
Scenario 1 : User needs to generate a standard invoice for a client with basic details.
Scenario 2 : User needs to apply discounts and include tax in the invoice.
Scenario 3 :User wants to send the created invoice to a client via email.
Observations and how it was fixed; participants had bought forward several concerns which was corrected further in iterations. For the purpose of the cases study im only showcasing one observation and how it was corrected here.
